CISA Adds Two Known Exploited Vulnerabilities to Catalog (opens in a new tab)

CISA has added two new vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog and updated the PHP Alert, Critical Vulnerabilities in PHP Require Immediate Patching : CVE-2026-109618 – PHP Memory Corruption Vulnerability CVE-2026-109619 – PHP Stale Internal Request-State Vulnerability These types of vulnerabilities are a frequent attack vector for malicious cyber actors and pose significant risks to the federal enterprise. Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 26-04: Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk establishes vulnerability management requirements for Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies. BOD 26-04 reinforces the importance of the KEV Catalog and requires federal agencies to prioritize rapid remediation of high-risk vulnerabilities, specifically those identified by Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) listed in CISA’s KEV Catalog on publicly exposed assets that grant total control of the asset post-exploitation, while deferring action for lower-risk vulnerabilities. BOD 26-04 further establishes basic expectations for when agencies must check whether threat actors compromised the system before the patch was applied. While BOD 26-04 applies only to FCEB agencies, CISA encourages all organizations to adopt risk-based vulnerability management and prioritize remediation of KEV Catalog vulnerabilities . CISA will continue to add vulnerabilities to the catalog that meet the specified criteria . Aware of an exploited vulnerability not currently listed in the KEV Catalog? Submit it for potential addition through CISA’s KEV Nomination Form . Potential KEV additions must have a CVE ID, evidence of exploitation, and clear mitigation guidance.

Laravel TokenGuard authentication bypass through non-string API credentials (opens in a new tab)

Laravel's built-in TokenGuard, when configured with a standard token-based API guard, may be bypassed to authenticate as an arbitrary existing user without knowledge of their valid API token. Under certain database configurations (MySQL/MariaDB) an attacker can submit a specially crafted, non-string credential value that is mishandled during the authentication lookup, causing the underlying query to match an unintended user record rather than failing authentication as expected. Impact An unauthenticated attacker may authenticate as another user without possessing that user's API token, leading to authentication bypass and account takeover on any route protected by the affected guard.

Laravel relationship inclusion can trigger unauthorized data destruction (opens in a new tab)

A vulnerability in how relationship inclusion is processed on certain read endpoints. Under specific conditions, a request to a read-only endpoint can be crafted to trigger a destructive database operation on a related table, rather than simply retrieving data. Impact A user with only read access could cause irreversible data loss (e.g., a related table being emptied), without needing any write permissions. This could result in denial of service and loss of data integrity for affected applications.

  13. medium 6.3 CVE-2026-103004
    Next.js
next.js cache leak across root param values in nested 'use cache' functions (opens in a new tab)

Impact With Cache Components enabled (cacheComponents: true), a 'use cache' function that calls another 'use cache' function that reads a root param can be keyed incorrectly when the inner call is served from an existing entry: the enclosing function's cache key then omits that root param. The enclosing entry is written once and reused for all root param values, so a response for one root param value can serve content produced for a different value — whether the page is prerendered at build time or at runtime, or rendered dynamically. Shared cache headers let downstream caches redistribute the content further. What values are leaked cannot be attacker controlled. Which value's content is served depends only on which invocation wrote the entry first. Workarounds There are no known workarounds. Apps should upgrade to the patched version as soon as possible.

PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. (opens in a new tab)

PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. In some scenarios, global state may not be correctly reset, or may be repopulated after being reset. The global state may then refer to request memory even after it has been freed. Subsequent requests may read or branch on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple strategies can trigger this condition and produce remote code execution (RCE).

Update October 23, 2026 : CISA has updated this Alert to: (1) provide a SIGMA detection rule to help identify potentially suspicious activity; (2) incorporate partner resources; and (3) reinforce existing mitigation guidance. Purpose CISA strongly urges organizations to immediately patch the recently disclosed critical vulnerabilities in PHP, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 . These vulnerabilities, known as “php2shell,” allow for unauthenticated remote code execution in PHP. The vulnerabilities affect all PHP installations serving web requests, including Apache with mod_php ( Note : PHP considers this highest risk), PHP-FPM, php-cgi, FrankenPHP and LiteSpeed. Organizations should immediately update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, or 8.2.35 to fix these vulnerabilities. CISA added CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 to its KEV Catalog on Oct. 26, 2026. Actions to take CISA urges organizations to take the following actions: Identify and inventory systems running any version of PHP across your organization. PHP is often a component of other software and prevalence may not be directly observable. Apply the patch immediately, prioritizing internet-facing systems. Organizations that cannot update immediately, or that continue to use PHP 8.1 or earlier unsupported versions, should take PHP-based systems offline until they can be patched or updated. A web application firewall may provide some protection until systems are updated or patched. Review the official PHP security advisory for guidance on patching. @angular/common: XSRF Token Leakage via URL Parsing Discrepancy in Angular HTTP Client (Incomplete fix for CVE-2025-66035) (opens in a new tab)

An incomplete fix for GHSA-58c5-g7wp-6w37 (CVE-2025-66035) in @angular/common's HTTP Client (HttpClient) allows Cross-Site Request Forgery (XSRF) tokens to be leaked to attacker-controlled cross-origin domains when requests use URLs that exploit parsing discrepancies between regular expressions and the browser's WHATWG URL parser. Technical Description To address CVE-2025-66035, xsrfInterceptorFn introduced a regular expression (const ABSOLUTEURLREGEX = /^(?:https?:)?\/\//i) to detect and skip absolute and protocol-relative URLs before attaching the X-XSRF-TOKEN header. However, browsers resolve request URLs passed to fetch() and XMLHttpRequest.open() using the WHATWG URL parser. For http: and https: schemes, the WHATWG URL standard performs several normalizations prior to resolving the authority/origin: Backslashes (\) are treated as forward slashes (/) — e.g., /\evil.example/x, \\evil.example/x, \/evil.example/x, https:\\evil.example/x, https:/\evil.example/x. Leading and trailing C0 control characters and spaces (<= 0x20) are stripped — e.g., ' //evil.example/x', '\0//evil.example/x', '\x1f//evil.example/x'. ASCII tab (\t), newline (\n), and carriage return (\r) characters are removed anywhere in the input — e.g., '/\t/evil.example/x', '/\n/evil.example/x', 'htt\tps://evil.example/x'. Because these URLs do not match /^(?:https?:)?\/\//i, xsrfInterceptorFn treats them as relative same-origin URLs and attaches the X-XSRF-TOKEN header, while the browser resolves and dispatches the request to the cross-origin host (evil.example). Note: Angular 21.0.3+ and 22.x replaced the regular expression with a WHATWG new URL(req.url, locationOrigin) origin comparison in #65683 and were already unaffected. However, the 20.3.x LTS branch retained the regular expression until 20.3.34. Impact The token leakage bypasses Angular's built-in XSRF protection on affected versions, allowing an attacker to capture the user's valid X-XSRF-TOKEN header if their server permits the request and custom header via CORS. Once obtained, the attacker can perform Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks against the victim user's session. Attack Preconditions 1. The victim's Angular application must have XSRF protection enabled (enabled by default in HttpClient). 2. The attacker must be able to make the application send a state-changing HTTP request (e.g., POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH) to a URL they control (such as /\attacker.example/api or //attacker.example/api). Patches The issue is resolved by parsing and comparing the request URL's origin against the application's current origin using the standard URL constructor (new URL(req.url, locationOrigin)). 21.0.3 (and all 22.x releases) 20.3.34 Workarounds If you cannot immediately upgrade to a patched version: Validate and normalize outgoing request URLs using new URL(url, window.location.origin) and verify that parsedUrl.origin === window.location.origin before passing dynamic URLs to mutating HttpClient requests. Avoid passing untrusted or user-controlled URLs to HttpClient mutating methods.

    Next.js
Next.js: Pending `use cache` fill can leak Draft Mode content into regular responses and persisted pages (opens in a new tab)

Pending use cache fills are shared across requests for the same key without distinguishing Draft Mode requests from regular requests. When two such requests overlap, the second request receives the first request's fill: - A regular request that overlaps an editor's Draft Mode request receives unpublished content, without any authentication. - A Draft Mode request that overlaps a regular request receives published content instead of the draft. If the overlapping regular request prerenders a page — for example an on-demand prerender of a route that was not prerendered at build time — the unpublished content can be persisted into the generated page and served to all later visitors of that route until the page is revalidated. Since cached functions can be shared across routes, the poisoned page does not need to be the page the editor is previewing. Sites are affected if they enable Cache Components (or experimental.useCache) and serve Draft Mode previews whose cached functions return draft-dependent content.

There is a CRITICAL severity vulnerability affecting CPython. A remote, unauthenticated TLS client can make a server crash or call through a freed pointer if its sni_callback assigns a different context to SSLSocket.context (the documented way to select a certificate per server name) and nothing else keeps the original ssl.SSLContext alive. Typical cases are servers that create an SSLContext per connection or replace it while connections are open; servers that wrap their listening socket with it are not affected. Mitigation: keep a reference to every SSLContext that sets sni_callback for the lifetime of the server. TLS clients are not affected. [Security-announce][CVE-2026-19553] SSLContext.wrap_bio() missing validation of server_hostname parameter (opens in a new tab)

There is a HIGH severity vulnerability affecting CPython. `ssl.SSLContext.wrap_bio()` didn't require the `server_hostname` argument to not be `None` if `ssl.SSLContext.check_hostname` was set. Due to a missing parameter check in `SSLObject`, if the `server_hostname` argument isn't supplied then hostname verification would be silently skipped. This defect could lead to programs where certificate hostname verification *appeared* to be succeeding with `SSLContext.check_hostname = True` and no `ValueError` being raised due to misconfiguration. If the program passes a `server_hostname` value that isn't an empty string or `None` to any of these APIs then certificate hostname verification proceeds as expected and the program is not affected by this vulnerability. Mitigating this vulnerability doesn't require updating Python or applying the patch. To mitigate, pass a valid non-`None` and non-empty `server_hostname` value to `SSLContext.wrap_bio()`, `asyncio.create_connection()`, or `asyncio.loop.start_tls()` and certificate hostname verification will proceed as expected. Upgrading to the latest version of Python or applying the patch only changes the behavior from silently skipping hostname verification to raising a `ValueError`, similar to `SSLContext.wrap_socket()`, when `server_hostname` isn't supplied. Plug: quadratic-time decoding of nested query/body parameters enables denial of service (opens in a new tab)

Summary Plug's nested-parameter decoder (Plug.Conn.Query) parses URL-encoded keys in time quadratic in their bracket-nesting depth. Any unauthenticated remote attacker that can reach a Plug-based HTTP endpoint can pin a BEAM scheduler for minutes with a single small request. Details For a key like a[a][a]...=1, Plug.Conn.Query.splitkeys/6 (in lib/plug/conn/query.ex) builds an accumulator of :binary.part prefixes (a, a[a], a[a][a], …) that grow ~3 bytes per level. Plug.Conn.Query.insertkeys/3 then does one Map.put per level keyed on that growing prefix, hashing the full byte range each time, and Plug.Conn.Query.finalizepointer/2 repeats the prefix-keyed walk to materialize the structure. Total cost is O(N²) in nesting depth. The same code path handles query strings, application/x-www-form-urlencoded bodies, and multipart field names via Plug.Conn.Query.decode/4 and decodeeach/2. The default Plug.Parsers.URLENCODED cap is 1 MB (~333,000 nesting levels), but Plug.Parsers accepts urlencoded payloads up to its overall body limit (20 MB by default), so an attacker can scale the per-request work well beyond the urlencoded-specific cap. The decoder shows ~4× scaling per 2× input (16k levels ≈ 195 ms on a single scheduler). PoC 1. POST a[a][a]...[a]=1 as application/x-www-form-urlencoded to any endpoint of a Plug-based app. Even at the 1 MB urlencoded-parser default the payload carries ~333,000 nesting levels; with the broader Plug.Parsers body limit (20 MB default) a single request can carry millions. 2. Launch one such request per scheduler concurrently. Each pins a scheduler for minutes; legitimate traffic stalls once all schedulers are busy. Impact A single low-bandwidth sender can render any internet-reachable Plug-based service (most Phoenix and standalone Elixir/Erlang web stacks) unresponsive. No credentials, specific endpoint, or prior knowledge of the application is required. Angular
Angular: Information Leak via `HttpTransferCache` Bypass When Using `withRequestsMadeViaParent` (opens in a new tab)

A security bypass vulnerability was discovered in @angular/common when Server-Side Rendering (SSR) and hydration are enabled in applications using a hierarchical HttpClient configuration with withRequestsMadeViaParent(). The HttpTransferCache utility optimizes hydration by caching outgoing HTTP requests performed during SSR and transferring the cached state to the client-side application via TransferState (serialized as JSON in <script id="ng-state"). Following the remediation of CVE-2026-50170, HttpTransferCache automatically skips caching requests that contain authentication headers or credentials (Authorization, Cookie, withCredentials, etc.). However, when a child HttpClient delegates to a parent client via withRequestsMadeViaParent(), the child's TransferCache interceptor evaluates whether the request is eligible for caching before delegating to the parent client's interceptor chain. If an outgoing request originates as anonymous from the child client, the child TransferCache marks the request as cacheable. When the request reaches a parent interceptor that injects sensitive authentication credentials (such as an Authorization header or API token), the parent TransferCache correctly skips caching the authenticated request. However, when the backend returns the private, authenticated response, the child TransferCache still stores the response in TransferState based on its initial pre-delegation evaluation. Impact Successful exploitation allows sensitive, user-specific information belonging to an authenticated user to be leaked to unauthenticated or unauthorized users. This occurs when: 1. During SSR, a child HttpClient initiates an unauthenticated request that is subsequently authenticated by a parent interceptor. 2. The authenticated response body is cached into the SSR-rendered HTML page (TransferState). 3. The rendered HTML page is stored by a shared caching layer (e.g., CDN, edge cache, or reverse proxy) or served across user sessions. 4. Subsequent visitors requesting the same page receive the cached HTML containing the previous user's private data. Attack Preconditions & Vulnerable Configurations An application is affected only if all of the following conditions are met: SSR and Hydration Enabled: The application uses Server-Side Rendering with hydration enabled (e.g., via provideClientHydration()). Hierarchical HttpClient with Delegation: The application configures a child HttpClient using withRequestsMadeViaParent(). Parent-Level Authentication Injection: Authentication credentials (such as Authorization headers, session cookies, or custom API tokens filtered via withHttpTransferCacheOptions) are attached by an interceptor in the parent injector chain rather than on the initial child request. Shared HTML Caching: The SSR HTML responses are cached by a shared caching layer (CDN, reverse proxy, or application-level HTML cache). Vulnerable Code Pattern Example ts // Parent Injector / Application Config export const appConfig: ApplicationConfig = { providers: [ provideHttpClient( // Parent interceptor attaches sensitive Authorization header withInterceptors([ (req, next) = next(req.clone({ setHeaders: { Authorization: Bearer ${getToken()} } })) ]) ), ], }; // Child Injector / Feature or Component Config const childClient = createEnvironmentInjector( [ // Child delegates to parent; TransferCache evaluates req BEFORE parent auth interceptor runs provideHttpClient(withRequestsMadeViaParent()), ], parentInjector ).get(HttpClient); // Request originates without auth headers - marked cacheable by child TransferCache childClient.get('/api/user/profile').subscribe(); Patches The issue is resolved by updating @angular/common to run root interceptors in the terminal request chain so that delegated clients leave inherited root interceptors to the parent chain, preventing duplicate execution and ensuring HttpTransferCache evaluates cache eligibility after parent request interceptors run. 22.1.1 21.2.20 20.3.28 Workarounds & Mitigations For applications that cannot immediately upgrade to a patched version, use one of the following mitigations: 1. Attach Credentials Before or Within the Child Client: Ensure authentication headers (e.g., Authorization) are attached directly when constructing the request or via an interceptor configured directly on the child HttpClient, rather than relying solely on parent interceptors. 2. Apply Explicit Cache Filters on the Child Client: Configure withHttpTransferCacheOptions with a filter on the child client that explicitly excludes endpoints returning user-specific or sensitive data: ts provideClientHydration( withHttpTransferCacheOptions({ filter: (req) = !req.url.includes('/api/private/'), }) ) 3. Disable HTTP Transfer Cache for Sensitive Routes: If specific SSR routes handle user-authenticated data, disable transfer caching for those requests or ensure the SSR response sets Cache-Control: no-store / private headers at your edge/CDN layer so personalized HTML is never shared.

    Angular
Angular: Sanitization bypass via directive host bindings on concrete host elements in @angular/core and @angular/compiler (opens in a new tab)

Angular automatically sanitizes untrusted values bound to security-sensitive DOM sinks (such as href, src, action, xlink:href, and data) to protect against Cross-Site Scripting (XSS). Prior to the fix, the Angular compiler determined the SecurityContext for directive host bindings (host: {'[attr.href]': 'value'} or @HostBinding('attr.href')) based solely on the declaring directive or component selector at compile time, rather than the concrete host element that the directive was applied to. When a directive with a security-sensitive host binding was applied to a different concrete host element—such as through: - hostDirectives composition, - Class inheritance of host bindings, - Dynamic component instantiation (createComponent with custom hostElement or dynamic directives), - Elements with SVG/MathML namespaces (e.g. <svg:a, <math), or - Elements using tag-neutral selectors (e.g. :not(...)), the compiler either failed to associate a sanitizer with the host binding or attached an incorrect security context. As a result, untrusted inputs (e.g. javascript:... URLs) bound via the host binding would be written to the DOM attribute without passing through Angular's built-in sanitizer. Impact An attacker capable of controlling the value bound to an affected directive host binding could execute arbitrary JavaScript in the user's browser context (Cross-Site Scripting). Patches This issue has been resolved in versions: - 22.1.0 - 21.2.20 - 20.3.28 Workarounds Ensure that any user-controlled values assigned to properties bound via directive host bindings are explicitly sanitized using DomSanitizer.sanitize(SecurityContext.URL, ...) before assignment, or restrict the input to validated safe URL schemes (e.g. http://, https://).

    Phoenix
Phoenix: Presence keys colliding with `Object.prototype` members break existence checks (opens in a new tab)

Summary The Phoenix JavaScript presence client (assets/js/phoenix/presence.js) tests whether a presence already exists using a bare truthiness check (state[key]) rather than an own-property check. Because applications commonly track presences under a client-supplied username or id, the presence key can be attacker-controlled. A user who joins a channel and picks a key that names an Object.prototype member (proto, constructor, toString, hasOwnProperty, and similar) makes the lookup return the inherited Object.prototype object instead of undefined, which is truthy. The code then reads .metas.map(...) off it and throws an uncaught TypeError, breaking presence sync for every viewer of that channel topic. Any authenticated channel participant can trigger it. Details The victim is any browser subscribed to a presence channel. When it receives the server's presencestate message, it invokes Presence.syncState, which iterates the incoming presences and checks whether each one already exists locally via let currentPresence = state[key]. state is a plain object inheriting from Object.prototype. For an ordinary key like alice, state["alice"] is undefined (falsy) and the safe path runs. For the key proto (or constructor, toString, etc.), state["proto"] does not resolve to a tracked presence but to JavaScript's built-in Object.prototype, which is truthy. The if(currentPresence) guard passes, and the code evaluates currentPresence.metas.map(m = m.phxref). Since Object.prototype.metas is undefined, calling .map on it throws a TypeError. Phoenix wraps no try/catch around channel binding callbacks, so the TypeError propagates out of the message handler: this.state is never updated and onSync() never fires. The malicious key is tracked server-side, so it is re-pushed on every presence update and keeps re-throwing, leaving presence permanently broken until the attacker leaves. Presence.syncDiff uses the same unsafe state[key] existence-check pattern, so presence diffs fail identically. Two scoping points matter. The impact is per channel topic, not global: presence state is per-topic on the server and per-Presence-instance in the browser, so only viewers of the topic carrying the malicious key are affected. The bug is a read-time confusion of the prototype object, not prototype pollution: the crash occurs on the state["proto"] read in syncState, before any state[key] = ... write is reached, so Object.prototype is never mutated and nothing leaks across channels. The fix builds the state and accumulator objects with Object.create(null) (or a Map) and gates existence checks with Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(obj, key). If an application does not pass a client-controlled key to Presence.track, it is not affected. PoC 1. Connect to an application that uses Phoenix.Presence and tracks presences under a client-chosen key (e.g. a username). 2. Join a presence channel choosing the key proto (or constructor, toString, hasOwnProperty). 3. The server tracks the presence and pushes presencestate / presencediff to every subscriber of that topic. 4. Each viewer's Presence.syncState (or syncDiff) reads state["proto"], gets the truthy Object.prototype, and throws an uncaught TypeError. 5. Presence sync stays broken for all viewers of the topic until the attacker leaves the channel. Impact An attacker with ordinary channel access can cause a persistent, stored client-side denial of service against every browser viewing a presence channel topic, freezing presence updates for all of them until the attacker disconnects. Any application driving the Phoenix JavaScript presence client with user-influenced presence keys is affected.

[Security-announce][CVE-2026-19672] tarfile extraction filter bypass allows creation of directories outside the destination (opens in a new tab)

There is a MEDIUM severity vulnerability affecting CPython. The tarfile module's tar and data extraction filters created directories outside the destination for members whose name leaves the destination and returns to it, such as ../evil/../dest/sub/file. The containment check used the resolved path, but intermediate directories were created from the name as given. Only empty directories are created outside the destination. Member contents are still extracted inside it. To return to the destination the member's name must contain the destination directory's own final component, so extraction into a secure randomised directory is not affected. This affects POSIX platforms only. On Windows, .. components are collapsed before the path reaches the filesystem, so the directories outside the destination are never created. [Security-announce][CVE-2026-15806] urllib.request.HTTPPasswordMgr credentials for one URL scheme sent over another scheme (opens in a new tab)

There is a MEDIUM severity vulnerability affecting CPython. The HTTPPasswordMgr class in the urllib.request module, along with its subclasses HTTPPasswordMgrWithDefaultRealm and HTTPPasswordMgrWithPriorAuth, did not take the URL scheme into account when matching stored credentials against a requested URL. Credentials added for an https:// URL were also used for requests to the same host over http://, so an attacker able to redirect or downgrade a client to plain HTTP (for example, via an HTTPS-to-HTTP redirect or an on-path position) could capture credentials in cleartext. Credentials added for http:// URLs could likewise be sent over https://. Credential matching is now scoped by URL scheme. Credentials registered with a URL that includes a scheme are only used for requests with the same scheme. Credentials registered with a bare authority (such as example.com or example.com:8080) continue to match any scheme, preserving compatibility with existing code, including proxy authentication. Users who cannot upgrade immediately can mitigate by ensuring that applications never make plain http:// requests to hosts for which credentials are registered, for example by not following redirects to http:// URLs. [Security-announce][CVE-2026-17084] StringPrep algorithm considered Unicode codepoint attributes outside Unicode 3.2.0 (opens in a new tab)

There is a MEDIUM severity vulnerability affecting CPython. The "stringprep" module didn't process characters from RFC 3454 tables B.2 or B.3 correctly: the latest Unicode codepoint attributes were used instead of the specified Unicode 3.2.0. This behavior would cause mismatches when processing domain names using IDNA 2003 (the "idna" codec) and the in_table_b2() function of the "stringprep" module. This only affects domain names containing characters that were not previously registered or had their Unicode attributes such as case-folding behavior updated since Unicode 3.2.0. Missing authorization in PostgreSQL logical decoding allows a non-superuser holding REPLICATION privilege to dlopen any file visible to the operating system account running the server, via the choice of logical decoding plugin. Missing authorization in PostgreSQL DDL commands allows an object creator to achieve denial of service against ALTER and DROP of the type, via creating a dependency on the type. Many DDL operations did check the privilege, but assigning a range subtype and referencing the type from an SQL expression did not. Versions before PostgreSQL 18.6, 17.11, 16.15, 15.19, and 14.24 are affected.

Incorrect ownership assignment in PostgreSQL ALTER TABLE ALTER TYPE command reassigns ownership of dependent statistics objects to the current user. This wrongly allows the table owner to run DROP STATISTICS and ALTER STATISTICS via this improper ownership. It wrongly denies those commands to the prior statistics object owner. DROP TABLE remains able to remove statistics objects, so this exploit achieves nothing in many ownership arrangements. Versions before PostgreSQL 18.6, 17.11, 16.15, 15.19, and 14.24 are affected.

Untrusted data inclusion in PostgreSQL psql COPY may allow a server administrator to elicit execution of data lines as psql commands, via error injection. If the "COPY FROM STDIN" or "\copy FROM STDIN" command fails before the server indicates that it awaits input rows, psql processes the in-line data rows as psql commands. "COPY FROM" with a filename is unaffected. The server administrator has no inherent control over the data rows, so a complete attack requires the attacker to separately acquire control of both the server and the data rows. Alternatively, an attacker controlling data rows alone might complete an attack through a coincidental error that they don't control. Untrusted data inclusion in pg_dump in PostgreSQL allows a malicious superuser of the origin server to inject arbitrary code for restore-time execution as the client operating system account running psql to restore the dump, via psql \restrict meta-command input expansion. The fix for CVE-2025-8714 introduced \restrict and \unrestrict to block this attack, but \unrestrict itself was sufficient for an attack. pg_dumpall is also affected. pg_restore is affected when used to generate a plain-format dump. Attackers with direct DML access to a non-frozen physical compressed hypertable relation can trigger an out-of-bounds read before the base of the live offsets array through the VectorAgg single-text hashing strategy, resulting in incorrect aggregation output, backend SIGSEGV, or PostgreSQL crash recovery depending on build configuration.

TimescaleDB through 2.29.1, fixed in commit 517c13e, contains an out-of-bounds read in the Dictionary compression reverse row iterator (tsl/src/compression/algorithms/dictionary.c). The forward path validates the decoded index; the reverse path uses an assertion compiled out of release builds, leaving the 64-bit Simple8b index unvalidated and the read offset attacker-controlled. Attackers with DML access to a physical compressed relation can store a crafted datum and run a reverse-order scan. With a pass-by-value column type the out-of-bounds Datum is returned to the client as a normal column value, disclosing backend memory including the shared buffer pool, which SQL access control does not cover.

Django GeoDjango spatial lookups allow file writes and outbound requests through GDAL raster parsing (opens in a new tab)

An issue was discovered in Django 5.2 before 5.2.17 and 6.0 before 6.0.8. GeoDjango spatial lookups optimistically parse the right-hand-side value as a raster by passing it to the django.contrib.gis.gdal.GDALRaster constructor. Any value used in a spatial lookup against a GeometryField or RasterField reaches this constructor, including untrusted input, for example a spatial-field filter submitted through the Django admin changelist query string by a staff user with view permission. A dict, or a str holding its JSON representation, is opened in write mode regardless of the constructor's write=False default, allowing a file with an attacker-chosen name and contents to be written through a file-backed GDAL driver. Any other str is treated as a datasource, allowing an outbound network request through a GDAL virtual filesystem handler. Writing a file to a location later imported by the application can result in remote code execution. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.1.x, 5.0.x, and 4.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Bence Nagy, localhost-detect, and kimchunbok for reporting this issue.

Django GeoDjango vulnerable to denial of service through deeply nested geometry collections (opens in a new tab)

An issue was discovered in Django 5.2 before 5.2.17 and 6.0 before 6.0.8. GeoDjango's django.contrib.gis.geos.GEOSGeometry is subject to a potential denial-of-service when parsing deeply nested GEOMETRYCOLLECTION objects supplied as well-known text (WKT), well-known binary (WKB), or hex-encoded WKB, which triggers unbounded recursion and a segmentation fault in the underlying GEOS library. Spatial field lookups and the django.contrib.gis.forms.GeometryField form field are also affected. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.1.x, 5.0.x, and 4.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Andrew MacPherson and kimchunbok for reporting this issue.

Angular i18n: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) via event-handler attributes (opens in a new tab)

A Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in the Angular compiler's internationalization (i18n) pipeline. Although Angular disallows binding to event-handler attributes such as onclick and onerror through standard attribute validation (validateAttribute() / validateProperty()), the i18n metadata collection path allowed these same attribute names to be marked for translation using i18n-on attributes (e.g., i18n-onerror). When exploited, a lower-trust translation file could replace a benign static handler such as onerror="void 0" with arbitrary executable JavaScript in the localized build. The following example illustrates a vulnerable pattern: html <img src="foo.jpg" onerror="void 0" i18n-onerror / Impact When exploited, this vulnerability allows arbitrary JavaScript execution within the context of the vulnerable application's domain if an attacker can control or influence the translation files used during localization. This can lead to: - Session Hijacking: Accessing session cookies, tokens, or sensitive user data. - Unauthorized Actions: Performing actions on behalf of the authenticated user. Patched Versions - 22.0.1 - 21.2.19 - 20.3.27 Workarounds Ensure that static event-handler attributes (e.g., onerror, onclick) are never marked for internationalization (i18n-on) in application templates, and ensure translation files are sourced from trusted origins.

    Angular
Angular: Cache-Key Ambiguity in HttpTransferCache Leading to Cross-Request Response Reuse and State Poisoning (opens in a new tab)

    Angular's HttpTransferCache caches HTTP requests made during Server-Side Rendering (SSR) so that they can be reused during client-side hydration. During SSR, HttpTransferCache previously generated identical key material for distinct request parameters when repeated values were present because repeated values were joined with commas: ts new HttpParams().set('role', 'user,admin') new HttpParams().append('role', 'user').append('role', 'admin') Both requests previously serialized as role=user,admin, allowing distinct HttpClient requests to produce the same transfer-cache key material. Impact In an SSR application, this cache-key ambiguity can make a later security-sensitive HttpClient request receive the response from an earlier semantically different request in the same render. For example, an attacker-influenced scalar-comma request can be cached and then replayed as the response for a trusted repeated-param authorization or data request to the same URL. As a result, Angular's server-rendered output can be based on the wrong backend response because the trusted request is not dispatched. This can lead to: - State Poisoning: Using incorrect or attacker-influenced cached responses for subsequent application logic. - Cross-Request Response Reuse: Reusing cached responses across requests with semantically different parameters. Patched Versions - 22.0.2 - 21.2.19 - 20.3.27 Workarounds If you cannot upgrade immediately, configure your HttpClient requests to skip transfer caching for sensitive endpoints where repeated parameter keys are used: ts this.http.get('/api/resource', { transferCache: false }); Alternatively, disable the HTTP transfer cache globally in your application bootstrap config: ts import { provideClientHydration, withNoHttpTransferCache } from '@angular/platform-browser'; export const appConfig = { providers: [ provideClientHydration( withNoHttpTransferCache() ) ] };

    Ruby on Rails
Active Storage has possible arbitrary file read and remote code execution in Active Storage variant processing (opens in a new tab)

Impact In its default configuration, a Rails application that displays image variants may allow an unauthenticated attacker to read arbitrary files from the server, including the process environment. That environment typically holds secretkeybase and often credentials for external systems, which may in turn allow escalation to remote code execution or lateral movement to those systems. Details libvips reads and writes file formats through "loaders" and "savers" (or more generally "operations"), many of which are backed by third-party libraries. It marks some of these operations as "unfuzzed", meaning they are unsafe for untrusted content, and several handle formats unrelated to web images. Active Storage did not disable the unfuzzed operations, so an attacker who can upload a crafted file and cause a variant to be generated from it may be able to invoke one. We are aware of a mechanism by which an attacker, by uploading a crafted file, is able to cause disclosure of the contents of arbitrary files accessible on the filesystem of the targeted application. One specific attack chain has been reported to us (see "Disclosure" below), but we do not assume it is the only one that exists. Affected applications An application is affected if it meets all of these requirements: - Uses libvips for Active Storage image processing. This is config.activestorage.variantprocessor = :vips, which loaddefaults 7.0 set and no later default has changed. - Allows image uploads from untrusted users. Generating variants is not a separate requirement. Mitigation - Upgrade to a fixed version of activestorage. - The minimum version of libvips must be upgraded to = 8.13. - Change secretkeybase and change any secrets accessible in the application environment (see "Expire and change secrets" below) Earlier versions of libvips (< 8.13) cannot disable unfuzzed operations at all, and Active Storage will raise an exception during boot in such an unsecurable environment. Expire and change secrets Upgrading closes the vulnerability but does not undo an exfiltrated secret if that already occurred. An affected application should treat every secret readable by the application process as potentially exposed and change it, including: - secretkeybase - The master key, whether stored in config/master.key or supplied as RAILSMASTERKEY, along with everything in config/credentials.yml.enc that it decrypts - Credentials for the Active Storage service, such as S3, GCS, or Azure keys - Database credentials - Tokens and keys for any third-party service the application calls Changing secretkeybase expires active sessions and requires users to log in again. Encrypted cookies, signed cookies, signed global IDs, and Active Storage URLs are also affected. Rotation should only be used as an intermediate step if necessary. Do not retain an exposed secret as a fallback. Workarounds If libvips < 8.13 is being used, there are no workarounds available other than removing the dependency on libvips from the application. Some applications may have ruby-vips declared as a dependency only for image analysis, and those applications may be able to simply remove ruby-vips from the Gemfile to remove libvips from the application. Applications that do not use Active Storage can remove ruby-vips from the Gemfile to avoid the boot-time checks. If libvips = 8.13 is present on the system, applications can disable the unfuzzed operations without upgrading Rails by setting the VIPSBLOCKUNTRUSTED environment variable, which libvips reads while initializing. Applications also running ruby-vips = 2.2.1 or later can instead call Vips.blockuntrusted(true) from an initializer. Releases The fixed releases are available at the normal locations. Versions affected - activestorage < 7.2.3.2 - activestorage = 8.0, < 8.0.5.1 - activestorage = 8.1, < 8.1.3.1 Disclosure Technical details of the attack chain are intentionally omitted from this advisory. They would add nothing to an administrator's decision to upgrade, while making it substantially easier to attack applications that have not yet done so. Details will be disclosed no later than 2026-08-28, via the Rails Security Announcements forum. Allocation of resources without limits in Erlang/OTP public_key certificate path validation allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to cause denial of servi... (opens in a new tab)

Allocation of resources without limits in Erlang/OTP public_key certificate path validation allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to cause denial of service by sending a crafted X.509 certificate chain during the TLS handshake. During RFC 5280 policy processing in public_key:pkix_path_validation/3, the certificate policy tree maintained by pubkey_policy_tree grows without an upper bound. When a certificate chain contains M policies per certificate and K certificates, the tree grows on the order of M^K nodes because pubkey_policy_tree:add_leaves/2 and pubkey_policy_tree:add_leaf_siblings/2 extend the tree per policy per certificate. A modest chain with many policies per certificate is enough to pin BEAM schedulers and exhaust the node's memory, taking down the entire VM. The attacker only needs to be able to present a certificate chain to the victim, which is the normal precondition for a TLS handshake, so exploitation succeeds against any incoming or outgoing TLS connection that validates the peer's chain (the default for SSL/TLS clients and mutual-TLS servers). This is the same vulnerability class as OpenSSL's X509_verify_cert policy tree DoS. This vulnerability is associated with program files lib/public_key/src/pubkey_policy_tree.erl and program routines pubkey_policy_tree:add_leaves/2 and pubkey_policy_tree:add_leaf_siblings/2. This issue affects OTP from OTP 26.2 before OTP 29.0.4, OTP 28.5.0.4 and OTP 27.3.4.15, corresponding to public_key from 1.15 before 1.21.4, 1.20.3.4 and 1.17.1.5.

The Erlang/OTP ssl application does not detect cycles when reconstructing an incomplete peer certificate chain during a TLS or DTLS handshake. (opens in a new tab)

The Erlang/OTP ssl application does not detect cycles when reconstructing an incomplete peer certificate chain during a TLS or DTLS handshake. In ssl_certificate:handle_incomplete_chain/5, the received chain is passed to ssl_certificate:build_certificate_chain/5, which walks issuer relationships via ssl_certificate:do_certificate_chain/7 with no cycle detection and no depth limit. When the peer supplies two mutually cross-signed certificates in unordered form (A issues B, B issues A), the issuer lookup alternates between the two certificates and the pair of functions recurses indefinitely, growing the call stack and chain accumulator without bound. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a crafted certificate chain in a TLS or DTLS Certificate handshake message to exhaust available memory and crash the BEAM node. Only a TCP connection and a partial handshake are required; no authentication or completed handshake is needed, and both TLS/DTLS servers and clients are affected when processing peer certificate messages. This issue affects OTP from OTP 23.2 before OTP 29.0.4, OTP 28.5.0.4 and OTP 27.3.4.15, corresponding to ssl from 10.2 before 11.7.4, 11.6.0.4 and 11.2.12.11.

The Erlang/OTP ssl TLS 1.2 (and earlier) and DTLS client does not verify that the cipher suite selected by the server in ServerHello was among the suites offered by the client in ClientHello. The client-side tls_handshake:hello/5 handler validates the negotiated protocol version and the downgrade sentinel but hands the server-chosen suite directly to ssl_handshake:handle_server_hello_extensions/9, which installs it without a membership check. The TLS 1.3 client path performs this check (per RFC 8446), so it is not affected. An on-path attacker between the client and the intended server can respond with a ServerHello selecting an anonymous key exchange suite such as TLS_DH_anon_* or TLS_ECDH_anon_* that the client never offered. Anonymous suites do not require the server to present a certificate, so the entire verify_peer and cacerts configuration is bypassed: the attacker completes the handshake with its own ephemeral parameters, no certificate is validated, no hostname is checked, and ssl:connect returns {ok, Socket}. All subsequent application traffic is readable and modifiable by the attacker. This issue affects OTP from OTP 17.0 before OTP 27.3.4.15, from OTP 28.0 before OTP 28.5.0.4, and from OTP 29.0 before OTP 29.0.4, corresponding to ssl from 5.3.4 before 11.2.12.11, from 11.3 before 11.6.0.4, and from 11.7 before 11.7.4. Signed to Unsigned Conversion Error and Out-of-bounds Write vulnerability in Erlang OTP erts allows an attacker who can supply a crafted Erlang external term... (opens in a new tab)

Signed to Unsigned Conversion Error and Out-of-bounds Write vulnerability in Erlang OTP erts allows an attacker who can supply a crafted Erlang external term format (ETF) binary to binary_to_term/1 to corrupt the BEAM heap pointer and crash the virtual machine. When decoding a LARGE_TUPLE_EXT term, the validation pass decoded_size() in erts/emulator/beam/external.c reads the 32-bit arity field as unsigned (get_uint32()), while the decode pass dec_term() reads the same field as a signed 32-bit integer (get_int32()) into an int. An arity wire value of 0x80000000 passes validation as 2147483648 but decodes as -2147483648, so the subsequent hp += n moves the heap allocation pointer backward. Neither pass enforces the runtime tuple-arity limit MAX_ARITYVAL. The result is an out-of-bounds heap write; in practice the VM detects an impossible heap size and aborts, denying service. The required padding is large when uncompressed but the compressed-ETF envelope shrinks it to a small payload on the wire. This issue affects OTP from OTP 25.0 before OTP 29.0.4, OTP 28.5.0.4 and OTP 27.3.4.15, corresponding to erts from 13.0 before 17.0.4, 16.4.0.4 and 15.2.7.11.

Integer Underflow (Wrap or Wraparound) vulnerability in erlang otp erlang/otp (erts modules), erlang otp erts (erts modules) allows Forced Integer Overflow, Excessive Allocation. This vulnerability is associated with program files erts/emulator/beam/external.c, emulator/beam/external.c. The BIT_BINARY_EXT tag (77) handler in the External Term Format (ETF) decoder accepts an encoding with both length and trailing-bits fields set to zero. The subsequent computation of the bitstring size underflows an unsigned integer, producing a value of roughly 2^64 that is then passed as a memory allocation size. The allocator aborts the entire node with a message such as "Cannot allocate 2305843009213693951 bytes of memory (of type binary)". The crash is a VM-level abort, not an Erlang-level exception. It cannot be intercepted by supervision trees, by try/catch, or by passing the [safe] option to binary_to_term/2 (which only restricts atom creation and does not perform structural validation of binary encodings). Any application that decodes ETF from untrusted sources via binary_to_term/1,2 or enif_binary_to_term() is exposed. The Erlang distribution protocol also decodes incoming terms through the same code path, but distribution is expected to run on trusted networks per the OTP Secure Coding Guidelines (DSG-011). Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions vulnerability in Erlang OTP erts (epmd) allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to permanently terminate the Erlang Port Mapper Daemon (epmd) via connection slot exhaustion. The do_accept function in erts/epmd/src/epmd_srv.c calls epmd_cleanup_exit() when accept(2) returns EMFILE (per-process file descriptor limit reached) or ENFILE (system-wide file descriptor limit reached), rather than treating these as recoverable conditions. An attacker can exhaust epmd's file descriptor slots by holding many TCP connections open while periodically sending a single byte to reset the idle timeout, then causing accept(2) to return EMFILE, which kills the daemon. epmd has no per-source-IP connection cap, making the attack feasible from a single source. On Debian/Ubuntu default packaging the impact is amplified: the systemd unit inherits a low file descriptor soft limit, and repeated daemon deaths trigger systemd's start-rate-limit, permanently failing both epmd.service and epmd.socket and requiring manual operator intervention to recover. This issue affects OTP from OTP 17.0 before OTP 29.0.4, OTP 28.5.0.4 and OTP 27.3.4.15.

Impact When a Server Action forwards or redirects a request, an attacker can cause the server to send that outbound request to a malicious host (Server-Side Request Forgery). This requires the attacker's request to control Host-associated headers. In some configurations, it's also possible to obtain internal values that weaken middleware/proxy authorization. Applications that use Server Actions are affected when the incoming host header is not fixed to a trusted value. This typically occurs on custom servers, or on deployments not behind a proxy that pins the host. Managed hosting pins the host upstream and is not affected; next start and standalone output do the same from version 14.2 onward. Workarounds If you cannot upgrade, ensure clients do not control the host header your application receives. Pin or validate Host and X-Forwarded-Host at your edge or proxy. A redirects() rule configured this way is vulnerable to an Open Redirect. This affects any destination that puts a dynamic segment in the hostname, whether from the path: javascript // next.config.js module.exports = { async rewrites() { return [ { source: '/:tenant', destination: 'https://:tenant.api.example.com', }, ] }, } or from a has capture: javascript // next.config.js module.exports = { async rewrites() { return [ { source: '/', has: [{ type: 'query', key: 'region', value: '(?<region.+)' }], destination: 'https://:region.api.example.com', }, ] }, } Workarounds If you cannot upgrade immediately, do not build the hostname of an external rewrites() or redirects() destination from user-controlled input. Affected users are applications using App Router + Server Actions. By itself, this disclosure is typically a recon/enumeration primitive; however, it can increase risk when combined with other weaknesses. Workarounds Never assume any authentication claims at the use cache or use server boundary. Always authenticate within the boundary.

Impact Crafted requests targeting Next.js applications using App Router built with Turbopack and a single entry in config.i18n.locales can bypass middleware/proxy based authentication. Workarounds If you cannot upgrade immediately, enforce authorization in the page's server-side data path instead of relying solely on middleware.

NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source have a vulnerability in the ngx_http_slice_module module. When the slice directive and unnamed regex captures are configured or when a background cache update happens, unauthenticated attackers can send requests that may cause uninitialized memory access in the NGINX worker process, leading to limited disclosure of memory or a restart. Impact: This vulnerability may allow remote, unauthenticated attackers to have limited control to disclose memory contents or restart the NGINX worker process. There is no control plane exposure; this is a data plane issue only. Note: The ngx_http_slice_module module is not enabled by default; it's enabled with the --with-http_slice_module configuration parameter. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.

The Erlang/OTP ssl application does not validate that the PSK identity list and binder list carried in a TLS 1.3 ClientHello pre-shared key extension have equal length before passing them to the session ticket handler. In tls_handshake_1_3:handle_pre_shared_key/3, an OfferedPreSharedKeys record with a mismatched number of identities and binders is forwarded directly to tls_server_session_ticket:use/4, which crashes the session ticket handler process. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a single crafted ClientHello to a TLS 1.3 server with session tickets enabled (stateful or stateless mode) and permanently disrupt session ticket handling on that listener. New TLS 1.3 handshakes complete but subsequently crash when the server attempts to issue a session ticket, effectively making TLS 1.3 unusable on the affected listener until the ssl application is restarted. TLS 1.2 connections are not affected. This issue affects OTP from OTP 22.2 before OTP 29.0.3, OTP 28.5.0.3 and OTP 27.3.4.14, corresponding to ssl from 9.5 before 11.7.3, 11.6.0.3 and 11.2.12.10.

Time-of-check Time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition vulnerability in Erlang/OTP ssl (dtls_packet_demux module) allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to crash all active DTLS sessions on a listener. A DTLS server listener uses a single shared dtls_packet_demux gen_server process to route incoming UDP datagrams to the correct connection handler. When a DTLS client reconnects rapidly from the same source address and port (sending multiple ClientHello messages in quick succession), a race condition in the demux's internal gb_trees key-value store causes a {key_exists, {old, Client}} crash, terminating the demux process. Because the demux is shared across all DTLS associations on that listener, its crash immediately kills every active DTLS session, not just the attacker's. The attack is pre-authentication: the attacker only needs to send UDP datagrams containing valid ClientHello messages from the same source IP and port before the intermediate DOWN monitor message is processed by the gen_server. No credentials, no completed handshake, and no special configuration are required, and the crash can be repeated indefinitely to create a persistent denial of service for all clients of that listener. This vulnerability is associated with program file lib/ssl/src/dtls_packet_demux.erl. This issue affects OTP from OTP 25.3 before OTP 29.0.3, OTP 28.5.0.3 and OTP 27.3.4.14, corresponding to ssl from 10.9 before 11.7.3, 11.6.0.3 and 11.2.12.10.

Improper Enforcement of Message Integrity During Transmission in a Communication Channel vulnerability in Erlang/OTP ssl (tls_gen_connection module) allows a network-positioned attacker to inject unauthenticated plaintext that the TLS client application later treats as authenticated server data. The function tls_gen_connection:handle_protocol_record/3 rejects APPLICATION_DATA records that arrive in pre-handshake states when the TLS endpoint acts as a server, but does not apply the same check when the endpoint acts as a client. A network-positioned attacker can send plaintext APPLICATION_DATA records to the client during the handshake. The records are buffered and, once the handshake completes successfully, delivered to the application as if they were authenticated post-handshake data. The attacker cannot observe the client's response or steer the connection, so the impact is limited to blind injection of unauthenticated bytes. The injection window is wider for TLS versions prior to TLS 1.3 than for TLS 1.3. This vulnerability is associated with program file lib/ssl/src/tls_gen_connection.erl. TLS 1.3 is affected starting with OTP 22.0, when TLS 1.3 support was added. This issue affects OTP from OTP 17.0 before OTP 27.3.4.14, from OTP 28.0 before OTP 28.5.0.3, and from OTP 29.0 before OTP 29.0.3, corresponding to ssl from 5.3.4 before 11.2.12.10, from 11.3 before 11.6.0.3, and from 11.7 before 11.7.3. Whether OTP before OTP 17.0, corresponding to ssl before 5.3.4, is affected is unknown.

Use of Default Cryptographic Key vulnerability in Erlang/OTP ssl (DTLS server) allows predictable DTLS cookie computation during the startup window, enabling source address verification bypass. On DTLS server startup, dtls_server_connection:initial_hello/3 initializes previous_cookie_secret to the empty binary (<<>>) instead of a random value. Because HMAC with an empty key is deterministic, anyone who observes the plaintext ClientHello can compute dtls_handshake:cookie(<<>>, IP, Port, Hello) and forge a valid DTLS cookie before the first rotation of the cookie secret. The DTLS cookie (RFC 6347 §4.2.1) is a denial-of-service mitigation that prevents spoofed source IPs from forcing the server to allocate state and perform expensive cryptographic operations; it is not an authentication mechanism. During the window from server startup until the first secret rotation (0 to 15 seconds), an attacker who can observe the plaintext ClientHello can bypass the source address verification, enabling DTLS handshake amplification with spoofed source addresses. This vulnerability is associated with program file lib/ssl/src/dtls_server_connection.erl and program routine dtls_server_connection:initial_hello/3. This issue affects OTP from OTP 20.0 before OTP 29.0.3, OTP 28.5.0.3 and OTP 27.3.4.14, corresponding to ssl from 8.2 before 11.7.3, 11.6.0.3 and 11.2.12.10.

Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop') vulnerability in Erlang OTP ssh (ssh_sftpd module) allows an authenticated SFTP user to render an SFTP channel permanently unresponsive. The handle_data/4 function in ssh_sftpd contains a catch-all clause that accepts channel data of any type. When channel data with a non-zero type code (SSH_MSG_CHANNEL_EXTENDED_DATA) arrives with an empty pending buffer and a payload at or below the SFTP packet size limit, the clause tail-calls itself with identical arguments, creating an infinite loop. The SFTP protocol operates exclusively on normal channel data (type 0). Extended data (non-zero type) is meaningless for SFTP and is never sent by conforming clients. However, the SSH protocol permits any channel participant to send extended data on an open channel, so an authenticated SFTP client can trigger the loop by sending SSH_MSG_CHANNEL_EXTENDED_DATA with any data_type_code and any non-empty payload at or below the size limit. The targeted ssh_sftpd process enters an infinite tail-recursive loop. It never processes another message, its message queue grows without bound, and it can only be stopped by killing the process. BEAM's reduction-based scheduler preemption continues to function, so other processes on the node are not starved, but each stuck channel process consumes its full CPU time share continuously and accumulates unbounded message queue memory. Opening many channels amplifies the CPU and memory impact. Erlang/OTP SSH configurations using the default max_channels setting (infinity) allow an authenticated user to open unlimited channels per connection, amplifying the attack without requiring multiple TCP connections or authentications. No file contents, credentials, or write access are obtainable through this issue. The impact is limited to denial of service on targeted SFTP channels, with secondary CPU degradation and memory growth. This vulnerability is associated with program file lib/ssh/src/ssh_sftpd.erl and program routine ssh_sftpd:handle_data/4. This issue affects OTP from OTP 17.0 before OTP 29.0.3, OTP 28.5.0.3 and OTP 27.3.4.14, corresponding to ssh from 3.0.1 before 6.0.2, 5.5.2.2 and 5.2.11.9.

Observable Response Discrepancy vulnerability in Erlang OTP ssh (ssh_sftpd module) allows an authenticated SFTP user to enumerate the existence of files and directories outside the configured root directory. The SSH_FXP_REALPATH handler in ssh_sftpd calls relate_file_name/3 with Canonicalize=false, unlike every other SFTP operation handler. This allows .. components in the requested path to bypass the is_within_root/2 check without being resolved. The un-canonicalized path then enters resolve_symlinks/2, which walks up the directory tree above the configured root and issues read_link() syscalls on arbitrary filesystem paths. An authenticated SFTP client can exploit this by sending a REALPATH request with a crafted traversal path. The server response differs depending on whether the target path exists on the host filesystem (SSH_FXP_NAME when the path resolves successfully, SSH_FX_NO_SUCH_FILE when it does not). This creates a path-existence oracle that an attacker can use to enumerate the filesystem structure outside the configured root, including the existence of sensitive files, directories, and mount points. The vulnerability leaks only the existence of paths. No file contents, credentials, or write access are obtainable through this issue alone. The information gained may assist further attacks when combined with other vulnerabilities. This vulnerability is associated with program files lib/ssh/src/ssh_sftpd.erl and program routine ssh_sftpd:handle_op/4. This issue affects OTP from OTP 17.0 before OTP 29.0.3, OTP 28.5.0.3 and OTP 27.3.4.14, corresponding to ssh from 3.0.1 before 6.0.2, 5.5.2.2 and 5.2.11.9.
